Qannoubine Valley

The Lebanese Government had applied to UNESCO for the recognition of the Qannoubine or Kadisha Valley in North Lebanon a World Heritage Site. The proposal had been listed on the agenda of the general assembly several times; however, the Lebanese government did not delegate representatives to defend the proposal and explain its significance.

Nakhel Island

Concurrently with the research on the cedar forest of Ehden, Ricardus was re-exploring the Palm Island off the coast of Tripoli in North Lebanon. The marine scientist had researched the islands and their surrounding waters before, and had sensed their value. The archepilago had witnessed circumstances that deferred interest in its assets, but the situation has changed. Similar to Ehden, Ricardus embarked on studying the flora of the three islands: Nakhel, Sanani and Ramkine.

Horsh Ehden Forest Nature Reserve
 
When civil war was tearing parts of the country apart, Ricardus visited village Ehden in North Lebanon accompanied with his wife Myrna and his friend Lionel Ghorra. The plan of the visit was to be acquainted with the forest of Ehden that Lionel knew and had walked through. They reached the forest and took their first walk there. Immediately, Ricardus recognized the significance of the extant natural system and the damaging level of disturbance.

CEDARS OF BCHARRI Print E-mail
In 1986, Mr Leon Howayek visited Ricardus to ask him to save the cedars of Bcharri because they were succumbing to diseases. At the time, Lebanon was at war, and Syrian troops occupied parts of the country. Ricardus refused to cross on Syrian barracks, which filled the roads up to Bcharri village.
