STOP LOGGING Print E-mail
Every time, when Ricardus is visiting the fields to collect plants or surveying the mountains and countryside and he spots the logging of some forest for firewood or charcoal production, he immediately embarks on a mission to halt the logging. He interrupts his work and move speedily to the nearest police station to inform them and set a complaint, and then he starts a series of contacts first reaching the Ministry of Agriculture, then local authorities, press and media, and any possible source or figure to pressure them to stop the massacre in the Lebanese forests. When he is not in the field, Ricardus would still be contacted by members and nature lovers to be informed of logging activities; relentlessly, he moves to action.

BIRD MORATORIUM Print E-mail
The extensive bird hunting and decimation of populations of resident birds imbalanced natural systems and disturbed ecological processes. This led to the manifestation of diseases, overpopulation of pests, weakening of natural system, etc. Besides enhancing public awareness to the impact of bird hunting through lectures, media and others, Ricardus lobbied with international organizations concerned with bird protection and conservation of natural heritage in Europe to pressure the Lebanese government to control bird hunting.

PROTECTING FORESTS FROM DISEASES Print E-mail
The pine forests of Lebanon witnessed an outbreak of a heavy infestation by the Processionary Moth (Thaumetaupia wilkonsonii), which lavishly consumes their needles to the extent of killing the tree over a couple of years. The infestation is a consequence of ecological imbalance caused initially by the elimination of birds and their role due to extensive bird hunting.

FOREST FIRES Print E-mail

To the naturalist and ecologist Ricardus Haber, forest fires in Lebanon constitute a senseless loss of the natural wealth and the work of millions of years. To the environmentalist, they are a stabbing to the heart of nature and his heart erasing all that he considers dear and essential. He could not conceive living trees with their entire ecological role being turned to ashes, or wild life and insects with all the glamour of their diversity and partnership with the ecological system being burnt.
